Can you have success with MLM if you’re always screwing up on the phone?
Absolutely! In fact, I’d say you’ll have more success in MLM if you’re constantly screwing up on the phone. Here’s why. YOU’RE ON THE PHONE! Being on the phone with prospects is how we make money in MLM. Actually, the two money-making actitivities for success with MLM are RETAILING and RECRUITING. As long as you’re on the phone doing one of those two things, you’re guaranteed success with MLM.
Now at this point, you may be thinking:
Yeah, Amy, but you said you’d have success with MLM if you’re SCREWING UP on the phone.
How is that possible?” Good question. I’ll tell you how. Actually, I’ll tell you what inspired this post. It was my prospect, Dr. Jekyll or was it Mr. Hyde!?
This morning, I rolled out of bed, sneezing and stuffy — head cold…and I looked at my clock and realized I had scheduled a follow up with a prospect. I had spoken to this gentleman 2 days prior. Someone I’d met at a networking function months ago.
Backtracking….Two days ago, I decided that if I truly wanted success with MLM, I’d better get out of my comfort zone and do something different. So I whipped out the enormous stack of business cards I’ve been accumulating from various functions and got to work calling. I had a great chat with this prospect, who was warm and kind, and extremely open to making extra money and totally intrigued by my primary network marketing company (Dr. Jekyll) and he agreed to watch a presentation! (FYI, this whole conversation was about 5ish minutes long. )
Well, when I picked up the phone to call him this morning at our schedule time, that warm, sweet lovely man (Dr. Jekyll) was replaced with a rushed , belligerent, unhappy man who absolulely challenged me at every turn (Mr. Hyde). He was argumentative, agressive and had attitude for days. A prospect monster!
Well now, I’ve sponsored plenty of people into my primary business over the past year and change, so I’m pretty comfortable dealing with all different types — even prospect monsters. But today, I was off my game. I was not well, I was tired, I was off guard and I screwed up this call. Needless to say, he did not sign up. LOL.
Why am I telling you this? Here’s why:
If you want success with MLM you must, must, must remember these 3 things:
If you’re getting a lot of prospect monsters (aka jerks) like this on the phone, congratulations…because it’s a numbers game and if you’re getting A LOT of jerks, then you are on the phone A LOT. Which means you’re getting a lot of jerks, a lot of uninterested nice people, and your share of open, interested people with whom you are creating relationships ….and you are sponsoring A LOT!…
You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person. Cedrick Harris taught me that when I first started. So true. No matter how much I screwed up my end of the conversation, if he wanted to come in the business, my screw up wouldn’t stop him.
Who cares! If you care, then you were too attached to your prospect and that means you don’t have enough leads and you are living in lack. Ray Higdon taught me that everyone who has success with MLM is either living in lack or abundance. If one idiot prospect sends you into a tail spin, you’re living in lack mentality. If you have the ability to shrug it off and move on, then you are living in abudance and you know that there’s millions of people out there waiting for you to call them with your opportunity. So…NEXT!
Why you should care about this:
I’m sharing this with you because I want you to recognize that even MLM Leaders screw up from time to time. We’re human. But we shrug it off, have a laugh and move on and that’s why we have success with MLM. If you have a sincere, burning desire for that success (you deserve it!), pick up that 800 pound phone often, and practice the art of the shrug off when you encounter a prospect monster, have a laugh and move on! Don’t read this Network Marketing Blog!!!
It’s an absolute and total waste of your time. Really. I mean it. Stop reading right now…LOL. You’re still here. Okay, then I guess you deserve some sort of explanation for that rather bold statement.
Well here’s what I see a lot of when it comes to Network Marketing blogs. I see so many great marketers out there writing great, important information on their network marketing blogs like Ray Higdon, David Wood, Eric Worre , Jessica Peretti and so many others. I know people are commenting, sharing it on Facebook, Retweeting, Digging, Tumbling and Flickring til the cows come home and yet there’s still a whole lot of Network Marketers struggling. 
That kind of made me go “hmmm” ….
I mean, what is a great Network Marketing blog good for if all this awesome information is out there is being read but not used?
So, here’s what I think is going on. There’s a lot of what Jeffery Combs likes to call “getting ready to get ready” going on. Reading Network Marketing Blogs, watching Network Marketing training, listening to Network Marketing Audios, webinars, conference calls, script books, prospecting training…all this HOW TO stuff and no darn ACTION TAKING.
All the Network Marketing blogs, videos and training in the world won’t help you if you don’t pick up the phone and get to work! This is a phone business; there’s no way around that.
And you can use a Network Marketing blog, youtube channel or whatever content you like to try to hide behind but you won’t make any money.
And you DESERVE to make money in this awesome industry that gives you boundless opportunity and no glass ceiling on earning potential.
Now, I’m not saying these sites are not valuable. You might have noticed that I have a Network Marketing blog. There is value there. But you have to look at how much time you have to devote to your business every week. You have to understand that the majority of it better be retailing and recruiting time and then allot a reasonable percentage of it to personal development, training and marketing. … Retailing and recruiting (the only things that actually PAY you) come first.
So, make time for it, but in proportion to the time you have overall to work your business. And, for goodness sakes, if you’re gonna make time for only one Network Marketing blog a week, let it be this one! LOL.
Now get back to work!

Do you get CHEAP THRILLS from your autoship?
I don’t care if it’s gold and silver, energy drinks, juice made with berries picked by midget, buddhist monks in the jungles of Madagascar or Aztec grain (I threw that one in for my friend and MLM top earner, Ray Higdon who has done them all, even Aztec grain…who knew?).
If your MLM product does not send a shiver up your spine when your autoship arrives at your door, you’ve got to ask yourself some hard questions about the business you’ve chosen.
And, although I love gold and silver, the tip in this video is really for any MLM Product.
It’s about beliefs. Not about gold and silver, wild berries full of anti-oxidants, the latest greatest video email, this is about YOUR beliefs in YOUR company. So, if every fiber of your being, every cell in your body, every hair on your head doesn’t gel with what company you’re representing, then you have to look at that…Because if you don’t, you’re going to notice soon enough that the balance in your account is only getting smaller and not bigger.

I’ve been thinking a lot about leadership lately, particularly as it relates to the Network Marketing industry and how good MLM Leaders operate. In addition to the great MLM Leaders I’m privileged to work with in my primary business, I see a lot of “pseudo-leaders” purporting to be TRUE leaders and it got me thinking…What does a true MLM Leader look like?
I’ve got to give you a little context here so stick with me for a quick sec as I back track…
When I first arrived on the scene I crawled onto the internet like many do, searching MLM Leaders and for the answer to how to find success in Network Marketing. …Hoping and praying that I didn’t have to talk to anyone I know because I had “no warm market” (of course that was before I knew HOW to talk to my warm market and create a warm market from scratch, and before I had total belief in what I was doing).
Anyway, I was lucky enough that one of the great MLM Leaders who knew exactly how to target folks like me put an ad in my face on Google (a PPC ad) and this targeted ad spoke right to me. I bought his product and it was pretty darn great (MLSP). With laser-focused determination and consistent action I was able to quickly build a following, earn multiple streams of income online and sponsor a bunch of people into my primary business.
Through my partnership with the awesome MLM Leaders and marketers in MLSP, I have found a community and learned how to market. And I have come to surround myself with some truly spectacular marketers, much greater than myself, from whom I learn on a continual basis.
Here’s my point…Because I learned HOW to market, I can now spot “Marketing” when it’s being directed at me, and I can now spot “Marketing” disguised as “Leadership” as well. Sometimes they come packaged in the same person – I have been privileged to meet and get to know many fantastic true Leaders who are also great Marketers –
BUT many times what we think of as a Leader is really only a great Marketer who knows how to push your buttons and sell. 
So, to give you a shortcut to spotting them, here’s what I think are the signs of TRUE MLM LEADERS in Network Marketing:
1-MLM Leaders are committed to ONE MLM business and do not split their focus on several.
Now there’s nothing wrong with multiple streams of income…A diversified portfolio is just smart. But until you’ve proven yourself as a top earner in one Network Marketing company, I firmly believe you should not add on any other MLM, because as a leader, your team looks to you for guidance and that is just darn confusing for them. A confused team does not succeed…In fact, they quit.
2-MLM Leaders are committed to assisting you succeed and give you all the tools to do so.
I don’t mean just tools like a sales funnel and some CDs (although those are great!) but I mean a simple system that can be duplicated by YOUR team and the TRAINING to use them. I’ve learned that systems are the key to duplication, which of course is the key to residual income. Sponsoring is great, but duplicating is key. My biggest lesson of last year: Don’t do what works, do what duplicates.
3-A true Leader has integrity.
They don’t tell you one minute that XYZ company is THE greatest opportunity they have ever seen, and then 6 months or so later tell you that it’s not really all that, but that this NEW company is THE greatest thing they have ever seen, etc…How are you supposed to believe someone who tells you that what HE said was the gospel wasn’t really the gospel?
So, either he was: A-lying or B-wrong. Either way, it’s not so good. A true leader, in my opinion, finds a company with integrity and that aligns with their values and barring any weird stuff, sticks with it. Remember, whatever YOU do, your prospect will be asking themselves “Can I do that?”.
So, if a Leader opportunity hops, aren’t they just training a whole team of people to do the same? Makes you go..Hmmmm....
I guess this is a little bit of a rant, which is not usually my style, but heck, it’s a new year and I’m straight shooter so why not share with you exactly what’s on my mind today?
Takeaway: Do your research on who you decide to follow and partner up with in this industry. Follow your GUT and trust those who are in alignment with your core values. There are some awesome Leaders in the awesome industry of Network Marketing and I’m proud to be associated with and have learned from many of them.

Energy Vampires. You know the type…you are trapped in a situation with them and you find all your energy draining slowly out of you? Energy Vampires, Negative Nellies — call them whatever you like. We all have them. Whether you like it or not you have them too. Maybe your boss is one. A co-worker. Perhaps your sister, your mother, your friend, you neighbor…whoever it is to you, they are there. You know the type, the complainers, the ones that always see the negative in EVERYTHING in life. They are, coincidentally, usually the dream-stealers too (but that’s the subject of another article
. Oh yeah, here’s the most important quality they all share THEY’RE BROKE.
Well, if you are an Entrepreneur, you require effective leadership strategiesto assist you in your success and quest for wealth….and, sincy you have no intention of being BROKE, keep reading. You, my friend, are an out-of-the box thinker. You are light years away in mindset from your Negative Nellie. However you still have to exist in a world of Negative Nellies.
Since you are on an Entrepreneurial journey, chances are that you are working on your mindset and personal development daily (hint, hint). If so, you have some tools in your toolbox already!…Awesome! However, no matter how many tools are in there, when you are in the presence of Negative Nellie for extended periods of time, it can compromise your positive outlook and your energy – even your prosperity if you’re not careful!!
Here are some strategies to assist you in preventing yourself from being sucked into that negative vortex… 
1. Either eliminate these people from your life, or if you can’t do that, then shorten the amount of time you spend with them as much as possible. A statement of the obvious, but it had to be said.
2. Get an iPod. Seriously, not only can you load it up with personal development audiobooks, but whenever you require a boost back into positive energy land, excuse yourself and put your headphones on for 5, 10 or 15 minutes and re-brainwash yourself. It works.
3. Enlist a support buddy for help. Is there another family member or friend who’s with you all the time at these events in which you’re stuck with Negative Nellie? Someone who’s of a like mind? Stick with that person. Create counter strategies (see #4) and work with your buddy to counteract the negative comments. If your buddy is not with you, call or text them regularly with positive messages and affirmations.
4. Make a game of it. (Can be done with a buddy or solo). Every time you hear Negative Nellie make a complaint or negative comment, make a positive one. It doesn’t even have to be about the same subject.
What this does is two-fold. Number 1 it changes the tone of the conversation from negative to positive and Number 2 it forces you to find something joyful and positive to focus on. Remember what you focus on you draw to you. So, if you focus on Negative Nellie’s negativity, guess what you get more of? However, if you focus and comment on something positive, you will draw more of that to you. Bonus: If there are any others present, you are modeling awesome positive behavior. That’s powerful.
5. For couples:
If you are surrounded by a Negative Nellie or two, you can take #4 to the next level. Try this. Every time Negative Nellie lodges a complaint or negative comment, show some sign of physical affection toward each other. This may sound crazy but it’s actually a blast, and a great way to counteract all that negativity. It actually makes it FUN.
Can you imagine looking forward to Negative Nellie drone on and on about why life sucks and you actually benefiting from it? Talk about making lemonade from lemons??!!!…Seriously, this is my favorite trick for passing the time when trapped with Negative Nellies. Try it!

You can’t succeed in Network Marketing….Network Marketing doesn’t work. LOL. That’s funny. Of course it works, but so many people get started and then quit with that mentality.
