I’ve been thinking a lot about leadership lately, particularly as it relates to the Network Marketing industry and how good MLM Leaders operate. In addition to the great MLM Leaders I’m privileged to work with in my primary business, I see a lot of “pseudo-leaders” purporting to be TRUE leaders and it got me thinking…What does a true MLM Leader look like?
I’ve got to give you a little context here so stick with me for a quick sec as I back track…
When I first arrived on the scene I crawled onto the internet like many do, searching MLM Leaders and for the answer to how to find success in Network Marketing. …Hoping and praying that I didn’t have to talk to anyone I know because I had “no warm market” (of course that was before I knew HOW to talk to my warm market and create a warm market from scratch, and before I had total belief in what I was doing).
Anyway, I was lucky enough that one of the great MLM Leaders who knew exactly how to target folks like me put an ad in my face on Google (a PPC ad) and this targeted ad spoke right to me. I bought his product and it was pretty darn great (MLSP). With laser-focused determination and consistent action I was able to quickly build a following, earn multiple streams of income online and sponsor a bunch of people into my primary business.
Through my partnership with the awesome MLM Leaders and marketers in MLSP, I have found a community and learned how to market. And I have come to surround myself with some truly spectacular marketers, much greater than myself, from whom I learn on a continual basis.
Here’s my point…Because I learned HOW to market, I can now spot “Marketing” when it’s being directed at me, and I can now spot “Marketing” disguised as “Leadership” as well. Sometimes they come packaged in the same person – I have been privileged to meet and get to know many fantastic true Leaders who are also great Marketers –
BUT many times what we think of as a Leader is really only a great Marketer who knows how to push your buttons and sell. 
So, to give you a shortcut to spotting them, here’s what I think are the signs of TRUE MLM LEADERS in Network Marketing:
1-MLM Leaders are committed to ONE MLM business and do not split their focus on several.
Now there’s nothing wrong with multiple streams of income…A diversified portfolio is just smart. But until you’ve proven yourself as a top earner in one Network Marketing company, I firmly believe you should not add on any other MLM, because as a leader, your team looks to you for guidance and that is just darn confusing for them. A confused team does not succeed…In fact, they quit.
2-MLM Leaders are committed to assisting you succeed and give you all the tools to do so.
I don’t mean just tools like a sales funnel and some CDs (although those are great!) but I mean a simple system that can be duplicated by YOUR team and the TRAINING to use them. I’ve learned that systems are the key to duplication, which of course is the key to residual income. Sponsoring is great, but duplicating is key. My biggest lesson of last year: Don’t do what works, do what duplicates.
3-A true Leader has integrity.
They don’t tell you one minute that XYZ company is THE greatest opportunity they have ever seen, and then 6 months or so later tell you that it’s not really all that, but that this NEW company is THE greatest thing they have ever seen, etc…How are you supposed to believe someone who tells you that what HE said was the gospel wasn’t really the gospel?
So, either he was: A-lying or B-wrong. Either way, it’s not so good. A true leader, in my opinion, finds a company with integrity and that aligns with their values and barring any weird stuff, sticks with it. Remember, whatever YOU do, your prospect will be asking themselves “Can I do that?”.
So, if a Leader opportunity hops, aren’t they just training a whole team of people to do the same? Makes you go..Hmmmm....
I guess this is a little bit of a rant, which is not usually my style, but heck, it’s a new year and I’m straight shooter so why not share with you exactly what’s on my mind today?
Takeaway: Do your research on who you decide to follow and partner up with in this industry. Follow your GUT and trust those who are in alignment with your core values. There are some awesome Leaders in the awesome industry of Network Marketing and I’m proud to be associated with and have learned from many of them.

What does that mean anyway? Live the dream… That’s what Brian Fanale, Norbert Orlewicz and Todd Schlomer (co-Founders of MyLeadSystemPro) named their first international event ever. But still, the prhase “Live the dream”…this kept ringing in my ears…it haunted me…chased me…WHAT DREAM? Who’s dream? What kind of dream? But more importantly: How on earth will this event allow me to “Live the dream”…???
Ah, events. That definitely started me thinking about events. When I first starting in Network Marketing/Internet Marketing, I used to think: what’s the big deal? I’ll just read about what happened on my company’s website or watch a few videos and get all my info that way. LOL. Cracks me up now. That was then…
Then… before I understood the POWER of live events.
Once I attended my first live event, it clicked. I got it. Suddenly there I was in the room with all the MyLeadSystemPro leaders and other top marketers I’d been admiring for months. People who’s webinars I’d attended and who’s training I’d implemented. People who’s training had allowed me to start generating leads and getting a paycheck! People who taught me how to talk to my prospects and CLOSE sales…People who taught me how to train my team (now that I had one because they’d shown me how to build one)! People I’d connected with on the internet – 2 dimensionally – were now there – LIVE IN 3-D. 
Powerful.
Recently, I attended the No Excuses Summit in Las Vegas and it really blew my mind. Sure, the speakers were great and gave tons of value, but it wasn’t just that… Some of the best golden nuggets I received came over a drink with Mark Hoversen at a private party, a 45 minute private conversation in-between speakers about closing from master closer Kenny Gregg, in the hallways, in the videos that I shot with every major leader there (Todd Falcone, Brian Fanale, Norbert Orlewicz, Ryan Dunn etc)…and even more value when the camera went off.
So, what does this have to do with “Live the dream”???
Well, each and every time I attend a live event my business takes off like a rocket ship. 
Hands down blastoff to my team and my income. Not only because of all the valuable information that I learn and take action on right away…but also because of the energy.
The energy that you get from being in a room full of marketers who are on FIRE is palpable. It’s real. It’s infectious. It gets under your skin and fires you up. You take that home with you and it’s worth more than the notebooks full of notes and training (although, honestly, there’s tens of thousands of dollars worth of training in my little notebooks filled with what I learned at these kind of events).
So back to the dream. Well, the dream comes from creating success in your business. And, if the “Live the dream” event can jettison you closer to that goal, they why on earth wouldn’t you do it??
How high are you willing to jump to live YOUR dream? To get one nuclear rocketship takeoff catapulting your business forward light years faster so you can achieve your dream?
